Layers Bakery – Goodluck Hope

Common Ground Workshop are proud to announce the successful completion of the first phase on-site for Layers Bakery, an exciting example of sustainable bakery design in London. This innovative project includes a restaurant, café, and wholesale retail space, located within the vibrant Goodluck Hope Development by Ballymore — a forward-thinking new district celebrated for its community-focused urban regeneration.

Founded by the visionary trio Chelsea, Giulia, and Faye, Layers Bakery was created to bring beautifully crafted baked goods and an exceptional brunch and coffee offering to London’s flourishing café and restaurant scene. Situated to serve the dynamic populations of both Goodluck Hope and London City Island, Layers Bakery aims to become a beloved local destination known for its quality, sustainability, and welcoming atmosphere.

The interior design carefully balances aesthetic appeal and functionality to deliver an outstanding customer experience. The space operates as a flexible café, restaurant, and workspace, catering to a variety of uses and needs. A defining feature is the lively, theatrical bakery workspace, where customers can watch bakers prepare fresh goods served directly at the main counter — a transparent celebration of craftsmanship and quality that connects guests with the heart of the bakery.

Material choices are integral to the sustainable bakery design ethos at Layers Bakery. Around the perimeter, the interior is defined by a vibrant orange Valchromat dado, paired with recycled paper wall linings, underlining the project’s commitment to eco-conscious materials. The main counter is clad in striking orange terrazzo, combining robustness with visual impact. The space embraces the building’s double-height volume, creating an open, airy environment wrapped in whitewashed timber retail shelving that elegantly displays goods and produce.

This considered material palette and design approach exemplify Common Ground Workshop’s dedication to sustainable bakery design in London — crafting spaces that celebrate heritage, foster community, and minimize environmental impact while providing a beautiful, functional environment for both staff and customers.
