Nebula – London City Island

Nebula is a dynamic hospitality and workspace hub designed by East London hospitality Architect Common Ground Workshop. Located at the entrance to London City Island in East London, this transformative project reimagines a former restaurant and grocery store into a flexible venue combining café, cocktail bar, restaurant, co-working space, and community lounge.

As award-winning East London architects specialising in hospitality and commercial interiors, Common Ground Workshop crafted a highly adaptable design that supports both daytime working and evening socialising. A refined palette of tactile materials—stained timber, terrazzo, and ceramic tile—complements the raw concrete shell of the double-height unit, while contemporary lighting and exposed services contribute to the project’s industrial character.

Externally, the design incorporates a rejuvenated riverside terrace along the River Lea, connecting the venue with its surrounding context and enhancing its public-facing role within the development. Internally, the space is zoned to shift seamlessly between informal working, social dining, and evening service, reflecting changing user needs throughout the day.

Nebula exemplifies our approach as East London hospitality architects: design that is socially responsive, materially expressive, and commercially robust
